When businesses come to us for help, they often tell us they want to boost their search engine optimization to drive more traffic to their website. To do that, you need to make your website visible to more people by optimizing your onsite content. A lot of work goes into optimizing an entire website to effectively attract the right kinds of visitors and to make it user friendly so people stick around once they find you. It certainly won't happen overnight, but there are several things you can do that will make a difference before you know it, potentially giving your SEO a huge boost!
Blogging is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website. Why? The more quality content you add to your website, the more chances you'll have to rank highly in search engine results. This means your website will appear prominently in search results, prompting more people to click on the link to your website. Write about topics that interest and educate your target audience (so they want to read your content), and include keywords that they are likely to be searching (so you show up higher in the results pages).
Effectively using keywords isn't as simple as stuffing a handful of words or phrases into your website pages. While that may have helped websites gain rank in the early days of search engines, algorithms have been refined so that such clumsy tactics are now much more likely to earn you a penalty than any kind of SEO reward.
In addition to blogging regularly, you can add other forms of content to your website to improve your site's performance in search engine results. Examples include offers (with corresponding landing pages), eBooks, infographics, a video blog, case studies, and additional web pages that contain more in-depth information about your products or services and the problems your business solves.
The title—or header—of a page is the first thing search engines look at to determine the relevance of a webpage, so be sure to include keywords in your page titles. Try to limit them to 65 characters or less, since that is all that is likely to display in search engine results. If you have a long title, try to place the keyword closer to the front.
Meta descriptions are another factor that can help drive traffic to your website from organic search results. Many users will quickly read meta descriptions before clicking on a link so they have an idea of what they’ll find on the website. The best way to optimize a meta description is to keep it concise and engaging and ensure that it offers an accurate description of what's on the page.
Your URL should contain at least one keyword and be unique (not found anywhere else on the web). Having duplicate content online can cause confusion and hurt your SEO.
